Sunny and Quiet Marina-style House in Friendly Bernal Heights
The house is Marina-style, with the entrance and a one car garage on the ground floor.
The front door is up three stairs, through a gate and through a vestibule. The foyer has a bench for taking off shoes before going upstairs (as the house is shoe-free).
Walk up the L-shaped stairs holding the handrail to the landing half way, then continue walking up.
This is the view from the hall, looking down the second half of the L-shaped stairs.
The hall connects the stairs to the living and dining rooms (across from the stairs). The room at the end of the hall is the bedroom. The door on the right is to the bathroom. (The photo was taken from the kitchen.)
This is the bedroom, with a comfortable queen-sized bed purchased in 2020 and used only as a guest bed. There are small shelves on either side of the bed for nighttime essentials, and reading lights. There are sheer curtains and window shades for privacy, but they are not black-out shades.
The bedroom has a table and chairs in the room. The closet (door on left) has a built in dresser with three drawers (empty) and a bar for hanging clothes.
The bathroom was remodeled in 2013, and has a light well for ventilation and an overhead fan.
The shower fixtures were replaced during the remodel. The cast iron tub is original to the house (1925); It is extra long and has been re-enameled.

The kitchen features an eat-in countertop with three adjustable, swivel stools. The Viking gas range has an exhaust hood and fan. There is a microwave below the eat-in countertop.

The kitchen is a joy to cook in. It includes a countertop toaster oven, a countertop mixer, an Instant Pot and a blender. There's a dropped counter for working bread dough or pastry (although currently it's where fruit is stored). There are plenty of pots and pans.

There's a sink for food prep, and a scullery for dish cleaning with a separate sink and dishwasher. The bottom-freezer refrigerator was replaced in 2020 and is located to the right (not shown).

Dishes are stored in glass front cabinets, and there is lots of drawer storage for cutlery, utensils and more. The house has dimmable lights throughout.

The scullery has some of the best views in the house. This door leads to a small deck (photo below).
The office has a work table with a keyboard tray. (The personal items in the office will be put away.)
There is a large closet in the office, and it could be used as a guest room; There's a top-of-the-line inflatable queen sized mattress stored in the closet, along with bedding.
This is the dining room with the living room at the other end.
The dining room table doubles as a regulation sized ping pong table. The net is simple to install and remove.
There is an upright Yamaha piano and the TV (covered) is 48". Sonic internet is included in the rent, along with utilities and trash, but cable is not included.
The living room features comfortable furniture mostly purchased from Room and Board in 2020. The room faces the street, and receives privacy from a large street tree.
The living room and dining room feel spacious and welcoming.
Down a spiral staircase from the kitchen is the laundry room. It has a LeMond stationery bike.
In the laundry room there's a utility sink with a bar for hanging laundry to the left, the washer dryer unit in the middle, and a vacuum cleaner is stored to the right. Access to the garage is through the door on the left (as well as through the foyer).
The upstairs deck (off the kitchen) faces south so it gets plenty of sun.
The spiral staircase from the upstairs deck leads to a lower deck. There are stairs down to the yard.
The lot is extra deep, which provides space for a rustic stone patio, bird bath and many plants.
The house is one block from Holly Park.

Holly Park has tennis courts, picnic tables, a baseball diamond and a playground, all connected by concrete paths.
Cortland is the main street in Bernal Heights. This is the public library.
In addition to many good restaurants, there are also several bakeries and coffee shops plus a grocery store.
Fifteen minutes walk from the house is Bernal Hill, with spectacular views of Downtown.
There are walking trails on the hill, with 360 degree views of the City and Bay Area. It's possible to see both the Twin Peaks Tower and the towers of the Golden Gate bridge.
